When it comes to the craft beer and micro brewery scene on Vancouver’s North Shore there is no shortage of talent and amazing beers to choose from. With changing seasonal beers and new releases to keep track of, as well as new breweries opening and other changes in the local industry, it’s important to stay up to speed with what is happening in an easy to manage way. Especially as it relates to the Shipyards Brewery District.

At Lonsdale Avenue Magazine covering the local beer, distillery and Cannabis scene is very important to us as a function of our overall cultural based community content. We have began working with Robyn Bossons aka ‘@TheBeerBitch’ who is a local Instagram Influencer primarily focused on promoting and covering the local micro breweries here around North Vancouver and across Canada and the United States. In this article we get to chat with her to get to know her better for the community.

How did you first start loving craft beer and brewery culture?

It was a slow growing passion! Beer has always been my beverage of choice, but I started out with the simple, mass produced lagers. I then started diving into some local lagers as a way to support local businesses, and I immediately noticed the quality difference. From there I started exploring different styles and figured out what I liked. We are so lucky to have such an amazing brewery scene here in Vancouver, and particularly in North Vancouver! With constant new releases there is always something new for me to try – it’s impossible to get to them all but I try my best!

What are some aspects you like most about living and playing here on Vancouver’s North Shore?

Definitely the close proximity to nature. I’m super into everything related to the outdoors – especially hiking and swimming in our beautiful lakes and oceans! I feel incredibly blessed to be able to get to a hiking trail in five minutes. The breweries are a great perk as well! I’ve lived in North Van my whole life, and I really can’t imagine living anywhere else.

What are a few accounts on Instagram who inspire you within the craft beer industry?

There are so many! I definitely look up to @thirstyexplorersclub. He has done an amazing job at combining nature and craft beer which is something I definitely like to incorporate into my blog as well. A few others who have been super supportive in helping me build my account are @mega.beerman, @cascadianbeerpodcast, and @hoppafett.

What would you say are your ‘go to’ types of beers, the ones you drink most often?

I go through phases for sure. Currently I’m super into Hazy Pale Ales and Hazy IPAs. I always like super hoppy beers, so a nice IPA or even a DIPA are go-to’s for me. Of course I also love a good sour too, I just have to be in the mood for it! I like a variety of different types of beers.

How are you enjoying doing beer blogging and social media promotions with Lonsdale Avenue Magazine?

It hasn’t been very long, but I’m already having so much fun. I’m so proud to be from the North Shore and love promoting our local breweries, so this is a great avenue (pun intended) to do just that. Our beer scene keeps growing, and I can’t wait to share all the new releases and drinking spots with the community. Especially now that some of the local parks are open for beverages.

Long term what would you like to be doing within the brewery industry?

My main focus is currently building my community on Instagram, but long term I would like to learn more about the brewing process. I have dabbled in home brewing, but haven’t explored it too much. Eventually I would love to collaborate with one of my favourite breweries to create my own beer – that would be a dream come true.

Lastly, is there anything else you would like the community to know about you?

There is more to me than just beer! Travelling is a huge part of my life – I’ve visited 40 countries so far. I also have competed in the World Championships for competitive cheer-leading 3 times.
