Nowadays it’s easy to get caught up in the never ending flow of life, going to work, earning an income, paying bills, running errands, and then eventually burning out and possibly even resenting what you are doing for a career. Some people can make a change when they need to for their happiness, while others simply live with things the way they are and push through life. When you navigate life you often ask yourself ‘why am I doing this’ and ‘what really makes me happy’, which is part of being human. Questioning things.
Walker and Wylde are two really creative and unique people who, instead of pushing through life and not questioning things, have done a complete 180 degree turn from their jobs and work life, into quitting their jobs, buying a camper van and setting out to produce a truly inspiring documentary called The Big Why. Which is currently seeking funding on their kickstarter page which you can learn about below. You can find them busking in the Lower Lonsdale Shipyards District or near the Lonsdale Quay. Checkout what we discussed with them below in this newest feature. They are legends in the making and you can follow along on their journey as well as purchase their EP on Wednesday December 16th called There Are gods In little Men.
How did you get started with busking and what do you like about being in North Vancouver?
We started busking in North Vancouver this fall and we’ve loved the strong community here, as well as the beautiful views and location. The back country of the sea to sky region also allows us places to camp out with our van. We always leave the forest and nature exactly as we found it and tread lightly.
What are you currently working on in terms of your documentary ‘the big why’?
We are making a film exploring the questions of life we often push to the side as we are too caught up in the daily minutia of life. We are funding it through Kickstarter currently until December 25th. You can pre-order the film, an album, and lots of other sweet rewards through our Kickstarter!
What inspired you to set off on the path that you have done as of recently?
We are both musicians and filmmakers, and more than both we are entirely dedicated to the work set out for us. Not to make money or fame, but because we believe these questions are worth asking and that people deserve to know. We want to leave bodies of work for people to remember us by.
Before being full time musicians and deciding to do a documentary what were you doing?
We both sold everything we own and quit our respective day jobs to travel and follow our dreams of writing music and producing film. Basically we were just doing the average every day adulting that we call life.
In your personal time what do you get up to for fun or activities?
We read lots of books as living in a camper van allows us space in that way, of course we play and write music, and we are both sharpening our skateboarding and fire building skills.
Lastly, is there anything else you might want our readers to know about you?
If you like supporting fresh music, or interesting films, our documentary is the project to back. We are over 50% funded, but we need your help to get all the way to 100%. Help us reach the finish line and find the answers to ‘why’?
