Recently the beloved Lonsdale Skatepark was demolished as part of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC) and Lonsdale Square development being put in place by the City of North Vancouver and Darwin Construction.
The skate park was originally built by Spectrum Skateparks.
Initially, there was a fundraising and awareness rally to save the skate park, however, it was subsequently removed.
They are considering and have now approved putting in a temporary skate park to serve as an intermediary solution for the local skateboarding community at Mahon Park, which can be utilized while a long-term plan is put in place.
Skateboarding on Vancouver’s North Shore has always been a global draw for visitors and the scene here is decades strong. Not only with skate parks and street skating, but more particularly with the downhill longboarding scene.
No doubt local favorite The Boardroom will not be stoked about the news of Lonsdale Skate Park closing. The proximity to one another really drew the skaters from around the North Shore and Metro Vancouver region to skate here in the City and spend their money at local shops.
