We hope everyone is doing well and keeping positive during this difficult and strange time that we all share together. There is much to celebrate in British Columbia as we have a massively reduced daily occurrence of new coronavirus cases. Which means that for the most part we are all following the directions of the Government to stay home and use social distancing whenever our in the public. This does not mean it is easy of course.

As the operators of Lonsdale Avenue Magazine we have not had to adjust much as most of our stakeholders work remotely from their home office, however we have had to change our approach to media and really just focus even harder at supporting the community day to day. We welcome all businesses who may need help with marketing or promotion support to contact us as we would love to cover your business in our magazine and assist with ensuring you get much needed customers during this time.

Below is our roundup of local news and current events from in and around the Lonsdale Avenue corridor of North Vancouver. As you know we do this to ensure you can stay on top of all of the pertinent happenings in the community. Including the new 2020 City of North Vancouver Financial Plan.

Reddit – checkout this really cool old school video of mountain biking taking place in North Vancouver, the bikes do not have shocks and of course they are very early days in terms of usability, they aren’t even wearing helmets.

WHL – David Tendeck a 20-year-old from North Vancouver B.C. set a career-best mark in goals against average, an improvement on his 2.48 tally from the 2018-19 WHL regular season. He was recently called up to play in the NHL.

Rabble – pay and medical benefits must be protected for long term care workers in senior centres across the country, and in particular here in North Vancouver at the Lynn Valley Care Centre where some of the first cases were.

The Tyee – published an article with photos highlighting the many people who are self isolating, using content from North Vancouver award winning photographer Amy Romer who is also a National Geographic Explorer.

CTV News – Vancouver is seeing a huge surge in burglaries and crime during the lockdown as business owners are not at their shops, “I’m aware that we’re not unique in this but there has been some increases in business burglaries,” said Cpl. Peter DeVries of the North Vancouver RCMP.

North Shore Canada Day Parade – after consultation with our MPs, MLAs and city officials we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Canada Day parade in North Vancouver.

Scout Magazine – Coho Collective which is based here in North Vancouver has launched an online shop to help local residents to purchase food and drinks for delivery and pickup, supporting the businesses that use their space.

Daily Hive – with restaurants closing their doors and grocery stores implementing physical distancing measures, local company Legends Haul allows customers to purchase restaurant-quality foods from home.

Bowen Island Undercurrent – the City of North Vancouver Fire Department rescued 8 ducklings from a storm drain in the area and ensured that they were given to the SPCA to find the right shelter to raise them.

News 1130 – North Vancouver RCMP say a string of armed robberies have happened in recent days, and are now alerting the public. The suspect is described as a man in his early to mid-twenties and uses a knife.

Black Bear Society – wants to remind the community about steps you can take to minimize interactions with bears here in North Vancouver, including covering your garbage with lockable lids and rinsing recycling items.

North Vancouver Fire Department – gave a virtual tour of their fire hall for kids at home to enjoy learning about the fire trucks and all of the equipment that goes into keeping the community safe during emergency calls.

North Van District Library – has setup a digital resource hub to ensure easy virtual access to all of their resources, so people at home can still take advantage of all of the different types of media that are available.

North Van School District – with gym classes on hold and many Vancouver households in possession of a well-stocked supply of toilet paper, physical education teachers in North Vancouver were inspired to use the in-demand bathroom staple to help encourage students.

District of North Van – on Monday April 20th the district will have a virtual council meeting for you to watch if you are interested, showing signs that much of their formal processes are now going digital to make things easier.

North Van Recreation – has put together a great article that outlines how to look for the silver linings during the pandemic and things that we can celebrate as a community and culture. With quotes and references.

North Van Chamber – join us for a moderated Q&A discussion with City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan, and learn what the City is doing in support of the business community during these turbulent times.

Bowinn Ma, MLA – sends out a regular email newsletter with all of the things you need to know going on in the community, including updates on British Columbia politics and more local things to know in North Vancouver.

North Van Arts – has setup an online survey to ask local artists and creators to share with them how this pandemic lockdown has impacted their ability to provide for themselves and the effects on their creative side.

North Van City Library – practice English conversation, improve your vocabulary, discuss interesting topics, and make new friends. English Corner is going to meet virtually every Friday, 1-2 pm except holidays.

City of North Vancouver – sends out their weekly CityView email newsletter with tons of updates in the community, this week includes covid19, getting to know the new patrol squad, more space at Grand Boulevard and more.
