If you are a local startup business founder, real estate professional, or just doing some moving and shaking in commerce in North Vancouver you will want to read this article. As we had the opportunity to chat with Elizabeth Mah of Paperclip Law group located in the Lower Lonsdale Shipyards District.

As the saying goes, it’s not if you will need a good lawyer to have your back, it’s just a matter of when, and take it from us having a good lawyer to fall back on is always a must have safety net when scaling your business. Especially in a hyper competitive marketplace like Metro Vancouver.

How did you get started with Paperclip Law and what do you like about operating in North Van?

Almost 10 years ago, after becoming a partner in one of the largest law firms in North Vancouver, I realized that the way I deliver legal services and relate to clients as people was different and that I didn’t fit into the regular “navy” structure of a traditional profession. It was time for me to muster up the courage to do things differently and I haven’t looked back since. We chose North Vancouver for our office location due to its vast beauty, the proximity to countless hiking trails, and the sense of community.

What are the legal services that your firm offers the people of the North Shore?

We help people with life and business’ biggest decisions – starting and growing a business, wills and estate planning, executor and estate administration services, and buying and selling property. Here at Paperclip, we want to make these big transitional periods in our clients lives go as smoothly as possible and with the least amount of stress.

What are some of the initial questions that you get asked when onboarding new clients?

We ask them where they are emotionally, mentally, financially, and of course legally, so we can meet them there and then figure out where they are trying to go so we can support them there. It’s important to understand who your client is and where they are in their lives so you provide greater assistance that helps with all their needs.

What do you like most about providing legal services for local startups?

I love the energy, drive and dedication that entrepreneurs have when they’re starting a new business that excites them! It’s contagious and reminds me of why we do things in the first place.

In your off time outside of operating the law firm, what do you get up to for activities?

I like running along the Seawall, keeping up with my two young daughters, planning dinner parties, and chilling in pj’s to take in the JOMO (joy of missing out) to slow down the pace of the week.

Lastly, is there anything else you might want our readers to know about yourself or the firm?

At Paperclip Law, we like to operate more as family than strictly colleagues or lawyers. We get to know our clients personally, we build and maintain relationships, and we strive to continue to build our business on the basis of heart and creativity. Here at Paperclip, we aim to continually bring humanity into what we do.
