Right on one of the busiest corners in Lower Lonsdale, one block from Lonsdale Quay, you will find Lift Breakfast Bakery. This rustic and charming café serves handmade pastries and artisan bread along with amazing brunch every morning, which is turned into an authentic Italian restaurant at night. I was lucky enough to be invited for a taste of their dinner menu. I started off with their Antipasti, which are slices of Coca Española, they are Catalonia flatbread with daily special toppings added, and I loved the delicious caramelized flavors.
As for main course for the evening, I had the Lobster Risotto and Fettuccine which was absolutely to-die for.. They were creamy and delicious, the Risotto was perfectly cooked with superb texture. Dinner is currently served every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm onward and reservations are suggested. How did Lift Breakfast Bakery get started and what do you like about operating in Lower Lonsdale North Vancouver?
It was Jane Young’s dream (the owner) to open a neighbourhood bakery that served breakfast. That dream became a reality when Jane met Fraser Young who had a business background and believed in her talent and abilities, perhaps even more than Jane herself. North Vancouver, especially the Shipyards District has really embraced and supported us. We have very loyal and supportive guests that keep us motivated to do what we do, along with outstanding local businesses around us that are sincere and kind. Over the years we have captured over 500 Google reviews which we are very proud of.
What are the most popular menu items and your inspiration in creating and preparing them?
Most popular food items… hmmm… that’s a hard one! It would be a tie between our Heritage Hash and Eggs Benedict. The Bennies are special because they are served on crispy Potato Rostis instead of traditional English muffins, putting a unique stamp on them. Also, we make them gluten free which means more people can enjoy them.
What do you currently offer for ongoing day to day specials or happy hour promotions?
We offer daily lunch specials as well as brunch specials on the weekend. They are consistently changing from Frittatas, to pastries and fresh soup, so it’s always best to pop on in and check out what we have on offer. We are also open for dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:30-10pm. We offer handmade, organic pasta dishes as well as special daily Risotto’s, a daily Coca Española and Seafood dishes!
Lastly, is there anything else you might want our readers to know about you or the bakery?
There are very few chefs in the world that can claim they have worked in a 3-Michelin-Star ranked restaurant, and Jane is one of them. Jane worked at the world famous El Bulli, that is just outside of the small town of Roses in Spain. El Bulli restaurant was recognized as the #1 restaurant in the world a record of five times. Jane worked there until it was closed on July 30, 2011. Jane’s concept for Lift Breakfast Bakery was to use her high-end skill set and experience, bringing it to everyday food concepts.
