The upgrades and renovations recently under construction at the Lonsdale Quay are nearing completion, which is awesome news for the Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood in terms of foot traffic for local shops and of course people commuting to and from work throughout Metro Vancouver on the Seabus. Translink has systematically transformed the bus loop and says that the Marine Drive RapidBus will also come through the exchange. Ensuring a speedy connection for transit across West Vancouver and North Vancouver.
The budget for the renovations were $14.7 million and the concept was to make the exchange more efficient in allowing an increase in bus traffic and passenger volume taking the buses. Given that nearly 30,000 people per day use the Seabus and bus exchange these upgrades were desperately needed to keep up with the increase in volume going through the area. Renovations included additional lighting to brighten up the space, escalator upgrades to bring people to street level, better accessibility for wheel chairs and people with disabilities, nicely laid out bricks in a pattern format and much more.
For residents who live in North Vancouver the Lonsdale Quay exchange is the center for their transport throughout the region and a great meeting point when going out for food in the area as there is plenty of seating and a beautiful boardwalk to enjoy. You can also easily park your vehicle nearby and use the Seabus to go downtown for errands or etc and then come back and hop in your vehicle to head home.
Congratulations to the City of North Vancouver, Translink and Quay Property Group as this is going to benefit the community greatly and spike local commerce benefits.
