On Wednesday March 4th 2020 from 6pm to 9pm, the North Shore Women’s Centre is hosting a much-needed benefit in recognition and celebration of International Women’s Day, at Anatoli Souvlaki in North Vancouver.
Our goal is to celebrate and recognize women’s achievements, while raising money for the North Shore Women’s Centre – this is our biggest fundraising event of the year! The funds raised through this benefit enable us to continue the programs and services that the North Shore Women’s Centre provides to thousands of women and girls across the entire North Shore each year. Everyone is invited, whether you are new to the Centre, or have known about the organization for years. We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces, but also networking and connecting with new friends.
Our focus for the evening will include presenting information about the programs that attending participants are assisting us to provide – such as our teen Girls’ Empowerment Camp and our Single Mother’s Support Group. The fundraiser will be held at Anatoli Souvlaki in Lower Lonsdale, and will be a fun evening with Zougla, The Greek Band, playing through the evening (spontaneous dancing encouraged), delicious hor d’oeuvres and appetizers, a silent auction, and perhaps even a few surprises.
We are looking forward to a talk by guest speaker Alison Wood, of Ocean Ambassadors Canada, a women-led non-profit environmental organization that connects people with the ocean and engages them on the issue of plastic pollution. A bit about Alison: “The inspiration to launch an ocean conservation initiative came to Alison while stand-up paddling in Deep Cove. The incredible beauty of the ocean was contrasted by pieces of plastic floating in the water. Alison recognized the need to inspire people to protect our oceans and that this inspiration could be cultivated by connecting people with the ocean.”
A glass of wine and hot and cold appetizers are included with each ticket purchased. In past years, well known attendees have included local MLAs and representatives from our event sponsors. North Shore Women’s Centre Staff and Board of Directors will also be in attendance.
