As we wind down from the festive eating and drinking and get ready to head into the 2020 New Year, now is a great time to start planning your health and fitness habits to be the best version of yourself. In this article we are going to explore a few things you can start doing to be the healthiest possible and really get the most from your professional and personal life in 2020!

Drink More Water – we all need to start drinking more water, around 4 litres of room temperature water per day in fact, and first thing in the morning when you wake up you should drink about 1 litre of room temperature water, as this will get your organs working and flush out the toxins in your system from digesting food when you were sleeping, which then allows you to have a good bowel movement.

Eat More Plants – we all know that eating fruits and vegetables is healthy for you when done as part of a well balanced eating program, but did you know that all protein originally comes from plants as only plants can create amino acids by using nitrogen from the air? Eating a mainly plant based diet will help you to reduce inflammation and get all of the micro nutrients, vitamins and minerals your body needs to function optimally.

Intermittent Fasting – when you wake up in the morning as mentioned above drink your morning large glass of water, and then instead of eating breakfast wait until about noon to have your first meal, in that way forcing your body to use body fat for energy in the morning which is called intermittent fasting. This is exceptional for boosting growth hormone and normalizing hormone levels. Fasting in the morning is one of the best things you can do for your health and is becoming very popular as it’s easy to do.

Fitness and Weightlifting – if you are not already going to the gym, or spin class or similar, you should start doing about 60 minutes of strength training for your entire body about 3 times per week. This will help you with making your joints stronger, assisting with posture improvements and generally make your body more functional and resistant to injuries. Lifting weights or high intensity training is great for your central nervous system and developing strong bones. Which is helpful as you age. Plus looking good is always a bonus.

Reduce Smartphone Usage – heading into the New Year of course you are going to be using your smartphone, tablet or laptop as part of work and lifestyle needs, but try to reduce your usage at night prior to sleeping to allow your mind to calm down from the day and enjoy a sense of peace. Not using your electronic devices before bed can help you get a better quality of sleep. Try reading a book or going for a calm walk before bed.

Get 8 Hours of Sleep – many of us are not getting enough sleep, and then our bodies become very fatigued and more likely to develop injuries or have health complications. It’s really important that you plan your day so you can get at least 8 hours of undisturbed sleep each night. If you are super busy with kids and work and what not, you will have to write out a plan for your day to move things around so you can get the sleep you need. Quality sleep is the most important part of a healthy balanced lifestyle. Lack of sleep creates anxiety, stress, free radicals and more factors that are not healthy.

Remove Clutter from Your Life – if you have tons of things and stuff piled up all around where you live you will likely feel anxious or uneasy as a result of that, having an organized living space helps to reduce anxious feelings and have more zen and peace in your life. Reduce the amount of things and stuff you have. If you haven’t worn a piece of clothing or used an item in over 6 months, there’s a very good chance you will never use it again. Consider donating your excess things and stuff to a local charity to streamline your living space.

Surround Yourself with Good People – as you head into 2020 try to be more mindful of the people you have in your life, if they are saying negative things most of the time or not being kind, try to minimize or avoid interacting with people like that and gravitate towards people who are mindful of themselves and their actions. You would be surprised how awesome you feel when you don’t have negative people in your life making you doubt yourself or feeling guilty for going to the gym or similar. Good people are kind and thoughtful.

Those are some good positive universal mantras to follow for yourself heading into the 2020 New Year. Ultimately you are the architect of your life, so choose happiness, health and peace each day by making good decisions. Change can take time, but if you take life one day at a time and make good decisions, over time you will find that you life changes for the better.
