When it comes to representing your brand on clothing apparel you want to make sure you have the right mix of design, branding and material. A great T-Shirt not only looks cool but it fits well and feels good on the skin. Blended materials that allow breath-ability and do not shrink in the washing machine are ideal. This is where the great team at GetBold North Vancouver comes into the equation, they have been in business for 20+ years and you can consider them to be the OG’s of merch printing here on the North Shore. We had the opportunity to chat with the founder and owner of the business during this interview, get to know Matthew Pierrot better below!

How did you get started with your business and what do you like about operating in North Vancouver?

I started my t-shirt printing business in my friends garage about 20 years ago. The house was in the Seymour area and I took this really old rickety screen printing press that I had been given and I decided to make a business out of it. It was a crazy idea as I had no idea how to screen print. It just sounded fun. North Vancouver was really receptive to a guy running a business out of a garage and things grew faster than I expected. I soon bought a house near Grand Boulevard and built my own, much larger garage. I ran the business there for over five years. My neighbours were great and I even employed some of the kids on the block. I used to throw a huge block party once a year, closing the street and bringing in a band. My company GetBold, would pay for everything as a thank you for allowing me to run a printing business in my garage. It wasn’t against the rules, but sometimes those presses would be running until midnight, and it wasn’t exactly silent. I moved the business to a warehouse in 2008, down by the Canadian Tire. It grew quicker once it was in a commercial space and when we added embroidery to our offerings we moved again to a bigger warehouse space in the Dollarton business hub. North Vancouver has always been really supportive of the entrepreneurial spirit. The desire to support local business that delivers good products has always been part of the ethos here and is a big part of why I have been successful.

What are the products, services and brands that you offer to customers?

GetBold puts custom logos on clothing by either printing or embroidery. We offer everything from your standard t-shirt, to hats, to grad wear, to work wear and jackets. If you wear it, and you can brand it, we make it.

If our readers want to purchase products or services from you what is the best way for them to do so?

The best way to shop from us is to visit our website (view below). You can get quotes, design online and view our massive catalogue. Of course you can visit our showroom too, if you like to try stuff on. We would love to meet you.

Before operating your local business what were you doing for work or a career?

Before starting GetBold, I was a musician. I had a Nashville record deal and I travelled all over North America singing my songs. It’s where I fell in love with the printed shirt. Concerts and t-shirts – they just go together.

Outside of operating your business what do you get up to for activities in your personal time?

I love the water. Growing up here has been such a great experience for me being so close to the ocean. I have a boat that I moor at Sewell’s in Horseshoe Bay and whenever I can you will find me on the water. I also love to dirt bike and so do my kids. So getting up into the back country on our motorbikes is always a good day.

Lastly, is there anything else you might want our readers to know about you or your business?

At GetBold, our typical employee tends to be a new immigrant, and many of them are way over qualified for the work we have them do. So in response to that we have been part of founding a charity that helps these disenfranchised professionals retrain to Canadian standards by sending them, or their spouses or their children back to school. Since we started we have helped three people graduate and resume their professional careers as lawyers or nurses here in Canada and we have two others currently in school. As money permits we will continue to help people achieve their dreams here in their new home of North Vancouver, just as North Vancouver has helped me achieve mine. You can view the charity’s website at golaunchpad.org.
