Far to often nowadays it’s easy to develop body image issues or unhealthy habits related to food such as binge eating or drinking. But it is important for you to know that you are beautiful and awesome just the way you are. You are you, you are unique and everyone else is taken. So be you, and love yourself.
If you find you are struggling with body image issues or feeling depressed in your own skin, you may want to speak with a professional who understands what you are dealing with and can put you on the path of getting back to normal.
With that said we are really excited to have had the opportunity to speak with Kat White who is a Food and Body Image Coach here in North Vancouver, and she will work with you through your questions and issues and find harmony within yourself. You can learn more about her below.
How did you get started with your business and what do you like about operating in North Vancouver?
It began with my own struggles with food and my body that initially started very innocently with a desire to be more healthy. It wasn’t long before this turned into something that became very unhealthy ie restrict/binge eating, orthorexia with intense feelings of guilt, low self-worth and body image. I was not living the life I had initially set out to live. It was a very confusing and difficult time that held me back and stole years from my life.
Being on the other side of all of that now and finally finding peace with food and my body without dieting, food restriction or over exercising I want to help others that have struggled as I have. Through my education and lived experience I am passionate about coaching and guiding each client in finding their own path to peace and freedom so that they too can really start living their best life.
I moved to North Vancouver from Edmonton in 2015 because of my love for nature; mountains, ocean, trails and my desire to live in a walkable, waterfront city with a lot of cultural diversity. North Vancouver has all of it!
What are the products and services that our readers and the community can purchase from you?
I offer a one on one Path to Peace coaching program (online or in person) for anyone who struggles with food and their body. It is a process of me guiding them to reconnect with the body and learn how to feel into their emotionality where the healing process begins while holding a vision of where they want to go. Most times everyone wants to focus on just the behaviours but in my coaching services we also go a step deeper into the emotions, thoughts and beliefs underneath the behaviours that keep people stuck.
I also have a free 3 day challenge to help end the battle with food and your body that is only 10 mins per day along with free meditations and available on my website. Which you can check out by reading below.
What inspires you to help people day to day with your business?
Dieting, food restriction and diet culture is insurmountably pervasive in our current world and has been causing so much harm to so many people for a very long time. Myself included. I am committed to turning that around by sharing my story, educating, guiding and coaching others on the harmful effects of dieting and Diet Culture so that they can stop feeling so terrible about themselves, their body and finally be at peace with food. We get one life to live but many of us get so easily wrapped up in Diet Culture that we are no longer truly living. My mission is to help others that have struggled as I have so that they too can wake up, heal and then start doing the things that really matter rather than spending all of their time and energy only on food and their body. I am also an advocate of the Health at Every Size framework.
In your spare time outside of running the business what do you do for activities?
I love to be outside hiking on the trails with my husband and lovely Goldendoodle Willow or nowboarding the North Shore mountains. In the summer I love being at the beach either playing fetch with my dog, picnicking with friends or riding the ocean waves on a stand up paddle board. I also enjoy Crossfit, running and yoga. I love travelling when I can and trying new restaurants especially with the plethora of options we have here in North Van! Who else is excited for patio season?!
Is there anything else you might want our readers to know about you or your business?
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and have worked in health care since 2001. I finished my 400 hour Hungry for Happiness Coaching Certification program in Nov 2019.
Currently I am working on becoming a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor so that I can help my clients even more as intuitive eating is what someone can turn to when they decide to ditch the diet and reconnect with their body. The process is very nuanced and unique to each person and so it’s important that I learn as much as I can so that I can help my clients as much as possible in finding their own Path to Peace.
