Last year we heard a rumour during a conversation we were having with neighbours in the Lower Lonsdale Shipyards District of North Vancouver, that either Cactus Club Cafe or Earls Restaurant were going to be opening on the second floor patio of the Lonsdale Quay Market facing the courtyard and waterfront. Currently this space is empty and right beside another eatery called Cheshire Cheese.

We have not confirmed all of the details but we have heard recently from another local contact that a lease was signed for the space. Which is awesome news and we hope things are going forward formally as this will bring so much more vibrancy to the area and depth of dining experience.

When people are waiting to be seated for a table at this new restaurant they can go downstairs to Green Leaf Brewing for brews and a chill vibe and also learn about the many food vendors that are available in the food court. This will create a cohesive benefit system for mom and pop shops too.

Being that the Lonsdale Quay Seabus is so close to this lease location and the Market itself already has so much character, this will be an excellent spot for locals and visitors to enjoy some eats and drinks and take in the cultural vibes of the Shipyards area. Right out front of the new restaurant is a beautiful water feature with mosaic tiles and the downtown Vancouver skyline, offering legendary sunsets for patio patrons.

As we learn more we will update this article with the details, whether the opening will be Cactus or Earls, when it will be opening, and any other pertinent details. In the same way that we watch things closely for other restaurants and businesses coming to the area.

With the abundance of underground parking at the market, the seabus nearby, and the rapidbus on Esplanade, this will become ground zero for fun.

If you have any more information about this feel free to reach out and chat with us about it.

A cactus club is the last thing we need in the Quay. The Quay is famous for giving space to independent vendors/ restaurants/ and breweries. Vancouver is becoming ‘Cactus Club’, ‘Joeys’, ‘Browns’, and ‘Earls’. All of these restaurants are chains with exactly the same menu, over priced food, and 0 culture. Funny enough, 3 of these restaurants will now be taking over lower Lonsdale- potentially pushing any independent restaurant further away. We should be adopting a model like in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa (basically everywhere) that allows independent restaurants to thrive. We are becoming an unaffordable, corporate, depressing, cultureless, city- represented by restaurants like Cactus Club, Joeys, Browns, and Earls ie: glorified cafeterias

If I could thumbs up your comment I would. Even though I’m open to the idea of more places to run into hotties my age right in my neighborhood. Your argument is actually very moving and I tend to agree with you.
