As you know from a recent article that we published we have invited all of the local political candidates in the running for the North Vancouver elections to come forward and answer questions to take part in an article with us. As we want to be a place where information of value to the community can be presented easily to our readers. With that said we had the privilege to sit down with Conservative candidate Andrew Saxton and get to know him a bit better. The full interview is below.

Question. How did you get started with politics here in North Vancouver?

Andrew. In 2006, I decided to run for the nomination of the Conservative Party in North Vancouver. I won the nomination in 2007, and was elected MP in 2008. North Vancouver is where I was born, and I wanted to contribute to our community.

Question. What do you like most about living and working in North Vancouver?

Andrew. I have lived and worked in 5 countries, and I have yet to find a better place than North Vancouver. Nestled between the mountains and the ocean, we have spectacular natural beauty and an abundance of outdoor opportunities both on land and sea. North Vancouver is a close and welcoming community where neighbours look out for each other and look after each other.

Question. What are the main areas that are inspiring you in your political journey? What do you hope to change?

Andrew. Canada is the best country in the world, but it didn’t get this way by accident; it took a lot of hard work by many people. We need to continue to work to preserve and build on what we have. As we transition away from hydrocarbons, I would like to see Canada become a world leader in green technologies. I would like to help Canadians get ahead and the Canadian economy grow.

Question. When you have free time what do you like to do in terms of activities?

Andrew. I enjoy hiking and playing tennis and golf in summer and ice hockey and skiing in winter. I also enjoy being on the water in my boat.

Question. How can people get involved and meet with you?

Andrew. I have been meeting with people regularly every week at Blenz coffee at Delbrook Recreation Centre. If I’m elected MP on October 21st, I will continue this tradition.

Question. Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to the business community of North Vancouver?

Andrew. As a businessman and long-time member of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, I look forward to helping local businesses grow. A Conservative government will commit to reversing the punishing tax changes this Liberal government made to small businesses.
