Do you have kids or teens that are at home a lot right now and struggling to keep motivated with how the school system has evolved in terms of learning from home online? You’re not alone as the days and weeks drone by and we all hope for things to get somewhat back to normal. Staying motivated is one element of self learning online, but also your kids or teens may be struggling with the mechanics of what they are being taught. Which of course can be difficult to understand in the areas of Math and Science.

We have a great solution for your family to get the most from the digital learning at home using a tutor who lives right here in North Vancouver. In the interview below we got to chat with Cassandra Menezes who is a formally educated teacher and excited to help you with your online tutoring needs and questions.

How did you get started with tutoring and what do you like about operating in North Vancouver?
I started tutoring in 2015 when I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Education degree! It was a great starting point for me while I was in the process of applying for teaching roles in Ontario. I also find that teaching one to one is incredibly rewarding because I can see such visible success and individual progress! I only moved to North Vancouver recently and it’s such a supportive and friendly community. I’m hoping to start building more connections soon.
What are the online tutoring services that you offer to customers?
I offer private tutoring for students in grades 1-8. I primarily focus on supporting children in developing their reading, writing and skills in mathematics. Given our current situation, I’m happy to offer online tutoring sessions. Fortunately, I still tutor a couple of my students from Ontario online, so I am comfortable using that as a teaching platform. In the future I’d of course be happy to offer my tutoring services in person too.
If our readers want to use your tutoring services what is the best way for them to do so?
Parents can feel free to reach out to me directly through e-mail or by phone. We can set up a trial session, or a meet and greet to discuss what their children need support with or what they’d like me to focus on.
Before doing tutoring what were you doing for work or a career?
I have been tutoring consistently while I have taught in Ontario, British Columbia and the United Kingdom. At the time of the outbreak of COVID-19, I was working as a Teacher On Call in the West Vancouver School District. Hence why I’m currently hoping to grow my tutoring business on the North Shore. When schools return, I will happily continue to tutor if parents would like to keep me on board!
Outside of operating your tutoring business what do you get up to for activities in your personal time?
I just love to stay active. A big reason I moved to North Vancouver was because I love all of the hiking and amazing outdoor opportunities. I also enjoy travelling and photography. At the moment, I’m also taking every opportunity to explore what my local neighbourhood has to offer.
Lastly, is there anything else you might want our readers to know about you or your tutoring business?
While this is a great opportunity for me to establish this business, I want to help families. It’s such a difficult, unprecedented time and I feel this is one way I can help. My hope is to guide and help families to navigate the online learning process or simply help their children stay on track. I’m really grateful to be apart of this community and would like to give back!
